Steve Champagne rejoined Curtis Thaxter in an “of counsel” position in 2018. He was previously an attorney at the firm from 1987 to 2004. In the interim he was General Counsel and Executive Vice President at Enel Green Power North America, Inc. (ENA) where he was responsible for legal affairs, business development and human resources. Steve’s practice focuses on renewable energy including wind, hydro, solar, biomass and geothermal projects. He has worked on the acquisition, development and financing of over 200 renewable energy projects. During his tenure at ENA the company grew from 500MW to almost 5000MW of renewable energy assets. He has also advised utilities on their restructuring activities and foreign countries on renewable energy policy including Peru, Bolivia, India and the Philippines.
Steve holds a JD degree and bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. Following graduation he served as judicial clerk for Justice David A. Nichols of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
Steve has been a presenter at numerous conferences and seminars in topics ranging from international arbitration to project finance.
He is currently on the Board of community radio station WMPG and is a volunteer Trail Steward for Portland Trails.
